Welcome to the Uphill Christmas Appeal 2024!
This year our appeal is all about water…
When it rains in our corner of Uganda it really, really rains. We are talking serious, soaked-in-seconds downpours!
Take a look at the video captured on one of our visits in 2018:
Just for good measure, there are two rainy seasons in Uganda — both vital for farmers. Their twice yearly harvests absolutely need the rainfall during those seasons. However, because that rain is so heavy it can be extremely disruptive and damaging. There’s often localised flooding, but even without that, the amount of run-off can easily destroy roads and footpaths. It’s this second effect that causes problems around the school.
Foot path erosion reveals buried pipes taking water to the hand washing station
As you know we have already installed water-harvesting systems to most of the school’s buildings, catching a lot of the rain, which obviously helps. However, we’d like to add some more large tanks to provide more storage capacity to the school’s water supply, and just as importantly, help control the damaging run-off.
This harvested water will be used for the hand washing station, for cooking and cleaning in the school kitchen, and for the hygiene at the latrines both in the School itself and in the teachers’ accommodation compound.
With your help, we’d like to install two new 10,000L water tanks. Those tanks, with all their fitments will cost £2000.
